Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful for the preparation of coordination compounds with transition metal salt cations by easy separation without formation of by-products, by reacting a dithiooxamide with a reactive amine in a soluble under specific conditions.

CONSTITUTION: Monosubstd.-dithiooxamide compounds are obtained by reacting a dithiooxamide with a reactive amine in a solution while providing an initial concentration of the reactive amine in the solution of no greater than about 15 wt.% and providing an initial molar ratio of dithiooxamide to reactive amine in the solution within the range of about 0.8:1-3:1, and conducting preferably the reaction at 30-40°C. It is preferred to provide an auxiliary nitrogen base (e.g. pyridine, aniline) in 0.5-3.0 molar equiv., preferably 0.8-1.2 molar equiv. to the dithiooxamide, so that the yield is increased. Also, addition of an effective amount of an acid (in an amount sufficient to adjust the pH of the solution to 2-5) can control the reaction and makes it easy to separate the product.
