PURPOSE: To obtain a compound useful an ozone deterioration inhibitor for natural rubber and synthetic rubber and a stabilizer for sythetic rubber, by subjecting p-nitrodiphenylamine, a ketone and hydrogen to reducing alkylation reaction in the presence of a specific catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: p-Nitro(or p-nitroso)diphenylamine, a 1W13C dialkylketone(e.g. acetone) and hydrogen are subjected to reducing alkylation reaction. In the reaction, a platinum catalyst or a pallarium catalyst pretreated with an aliphatic carboxylic acid is used or a platinum catalyst or a palladium catalyst is used in the presence of the aliphatic arboxylic acid. The reaction is carried out by using 1.0W10.0mol ketone based on the diphenylamine at 20W200°C at 1W100kg/cm2 hydrogen pressure to give the aimed substance. Since the reaction is done at low temperature and low pressure, activity and selectivity of the platinum catalyst or the palladium catalyst are improved and the aimed substance is obtained in high purity, in high yield and economically.
