Abstract:

To provide an industrially useful method in producing an N- alkylaromatic amino compound by a reductive alkylation reaction of an aromatic amino compound by reusing a noble catalyst so as to advance the reaction in an extremely short time in a high yield.

In a method for producing an N-alkyl-substituted aromatic amino compound by reacting an aromatic amino compound or an aromatic nitro compound with an aldehyde compound and hydrogen in a solvent in the presence of a noble metal catalyst, the noble metal catalyst filtered and recovered after the reaction is over is washed with alkali water and reused. Preferably the aromatic amino compound or the aromatic nitro compound is reacted with the aldehyde compound in a batch.
