Abstract:

PURPOSE: To simply and safely obtain the subject compound excellent in foamability, safety and color tone and useful for various kinds of detergents in a high reaction rate by sulfating an N,N-dialkylamidoalkanol in the presence of a specific carboxylic acid.

CONSTITUTION: (B) A compound of formula I [R1 is a 6-22C (branched) alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkylphenyl (the alkyl has 6-22 carbon atoms); R2 is H, a 1-22C (branched) alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkylphenyl (the alkyl has 8-12 carbon atoms); R3 is a 1-5C (branched) alkylene; R4 is a 2-3C (branched) alkylene; (n) is 0-50 which is the average mole number of an alkylene oxide] is sulfated with (C) a sulfating agent in the presence of (A) a compound of the formula: R5COOH [R5 is a 1-22C (branched) alkyl, alkenyl] and, if necessary, further neutralized to obtain a compound of formula II (M is H, cation).
