Title:
PRODUCTION OF NARROW-MOLECULAR-WEIGHT-DISTRIBUTION POLYESTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3686207
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a polyester having a desired molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution and being amenable to the separation of recovery of the catalyst from the polymer after the production by (co)polymerizing a cyclic ester monomer through ring opening in the presence of an amorphous or porous silica compound.
SOLUTION: A cyclic ester monomer is (co)polymerized through ring opening in the presence of an amorphous or porous silica compound, desirably an amorphous or porous silica compound having a metallic atom as part of the skeleton to obtain a polyester having such a narrow molecular weight distribution that the ratio of the weight-average molecular weight(Mw) to the number-average molecular weight(Mn) is about 1.2 or below. When a compound and/or a resin each having at least one hydroxyl group in the molecule is added to the reaction system, they function as chain transfer agents to enable to obtain a polyester having a desired molecular weight. After the polymerization, The silica compound as a catalyst can be easily separated by an operation such as filtration and can be reused.
