Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain nitrophthalides with good controllability of reaction at a low temperature, by reacting corresponding specific phthalides with nitric acid in acetic anhydride in the presence of a catalytic amount of conc. sulfuric acid.
CONSTITUTION: 1Mol phthalides expressed by formula I (R1WR3 represent 1W6C alkyl) are reacted with 1W10mol nitric acid in acetic anhydride in an amount of 1W20 times, preferably 3W6 times based on the weight of the phthalides in the presence of a catalytic amount of sulfuric acid to obtain nitrophthalides expressed by formula II useful as an intermediate for producing tritoqualine having action such as antiallergic action.
