PURPOSE: To obtain the titled emulsion having small pores in the interior, useful as a coating compound, etc. to provide a film of coating having improved opacifying properties, and improved physical properties, by subjecting a polymerizable vinyl monomer, etc. to emulsion polymerization in the presence of a water-insoluble nonpolymerizable solvent optionally in the presence of a polymerizable emulsion to become seed particles.

CONSTITUTION: (A) 0W90pts.wt. polymer emulsion obtained by subjecting (i) a polymerizable vinyl monomer [e.g., (meth)acrylic ester, etc.], and, if necessary, (ii) a polyfunctional crosslinkable monomer (e.g., ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, etc.), (B) 0.1W100pts.wt. water-insoluble nonpolymerizable solvent (e.g., aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, etc.), (C) 100W10pts.wt. polymerizable vinyl monomer, and (D) 0W50pts.wt. polyfunctional monomer are subjected to emulsion polymerization, to give the aimed emulsion.
