Title:
PRODUCTION OF NORMAL-TEMPERATURE MOLTEN SALT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0324088
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the title molten salt having stable characteristics industrially and advantageously by suspending a 1,2,3-trialkylimidazolium halide, etc., and an aluminum halide in a low-boiling inert solvent and subjecting the suspension to reaction of complex compound formation.

CONSTITUTION: A 1,3-dialkyl or 1,2,3-trialkylimidazolium halide (e.g. 1,3- dimethylimidazolium bromide) is suspended in a low-boiling inert solvent (e.g. n-pentane), further reacted with an aluminum halide (e.g. aluminum trichloride) in a nonaqueous atmosphere at room temperature - 100°C to give the aimed molten salt. The molar ratio of the aluminum halide and the 1,2,3- trialkylimidazolium halide is preferably 0.7-4.0.
