This nuclear substituted bisphenol represented by formula I {R1, R2 are each H, a 1-6C alkyl, etc.; X is -O-, -S-, etc.; R3 is H or a 1-12C hydrocarbon; R4 is H or a 1-12C hydrocarbon; R5 is a 3-10C divalent hydrocarbon, Ra, Rb are each H, etc.} is obtained by reacting a bisphenol compound of formula II, e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, with a phenyl alkenyl compound of formula III {R5, R7 are each a 1-7C hydrocarbon, etc.; R8 is a 1-8C hydrocarbon, etc.; R9, R10 are each a 1-7C hydrocarbon, etc.; R11 is a 3-7C divalent hydrocarbon; Ar1, Ar2 are each a 6-15C aromatic group} and formula IV, e.g. α-methylstyrene in the presence of (A) aluminum alkoxide, e.g. aluminum tripropoxide and/or (B) a reaction product of (A) with a compound of formula II.
