Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing octachlorocyclopentene, by which the metals used as a catalyst can be readily separated and removed from the reaction product.
SOLUTION: The method for producing octachlorocyclopentene by chlorinating hexachlorocyclopentadiene in liquid phase with chlorine comprises using iron as the catalyst component. The iron component used as the catalyst is iron or its compound, capable of being changed into ferric chloride in the reaction system, and the compound at the charging time is not specifically limited. Concretely, the metal iron, an iron alloy, the ferric chloride or ferrous chloride is used, and the use of the ferric chloride is preferable.
