Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain an oil-modified phenolic resin excellent in moisture resistance, heat resistance, solvent resistance and punchability by reacting a drying oil-phenol adduct with an arom. hydrocarbon-formaldehyde resin in the presence of an acid catalyst and then reacting the resulting product with a formaldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A drying oil-phenol adduct or a mixture of the drying oil-phenol adduct and a phenol obtd. by reacting a phenol with a drying oil in the presence of an acid catalyst is reacted with an arom. hydrocarbon-formaldehyde resin in the presence of an acid catalyst, and the resulting product is reacted with a formaldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst to produce an oil-modified phenolic resin for use in a laminate. This resin is used to produce a laminate excellent in moisture resistance, punchability, heat resistance and solvent resistance. Further, the amt. of an unreacted phenol in a varnish is decreased because of the high reactivity of the arom. hydrocarbon-formaldehyde resin with the phenol to improve the yield in the step of coating.
