Abstract:

To obtain an olefin polymer at a high efficiency by polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal compd. (coordination compd.) contg. a transition metal such as Ni, Pd, or Pt and an organoaluminum compd.

A transition metal compd. (A) represented by formula II (wherein M is a transition metal of the group 8-10; X1 and X2 are each N or P; R1 and R2 are each H or a hydrocarbon group; R3 is a group represented by formula III; R6 to R16 are each H or a hydrocarbon group; m and n are each 1 or 2; and R4 and R5 are each H, halogen, etc.) (e.g. a compd. represented by formula I) and an organoaluminum compd. (B) represented by formula IV (Ra and Rb are each a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; X is halogen; and 0<m≤3, 0≤m, p<3, and q<3 provided m+n+p+q=3) (e.g. triethylaluminum) are used as the catalyst. A solvent and the catalyst in a molar ratio of B/A of 2-10,000 and in such an amt. that the atomic concn. of the transition metal is 10-8-1g-atom/l of polymn. vol., if necessary, a specified amt. of fine particles having an average particle size of 3-300μm are mixed in a reactor and then an olefin is supplied to reactor and polymerized, thus giving an olefin polymer.
