Title:
PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER HAVING THIOL GROUP
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3188769
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an optical fiber for immobilizing an immune substance free from the problems of sterical hindrance, etc., by reacting a resin optical fiber having formyl and carboxyl groups on the surface of the core with a compound containing an amino group and a thiol group.
CONSTITUTION: A resin optical fiber having formyl and carboxyl groups on the surface of the core is reacted with a compound containing an amino group and a thiol group to introduce thiol groups into the surface of the core of the optical fiber. Desirable examples of the compounds containing an amino group and a thiol group include cysteine and 2-aminoethanethiol. In order to obtain an optical fiber having formyl groups by introducing formyl groups into the surface of the core, a process comprising using a dialdehyde as the compound having a formyl group or a process comprising using a monoaldehyde are adopted.
