Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject compound having high optical purity useful as an intermediate for synthesizing perfumes and agrochemicals, etc., on an industrial scale at a low cost by treating a racemic 2,4,4-trimethyl-2- cyclohexen-1-yl ester with a microbial lipase.
SOLUTION: A racemic 2,4,4-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-yl ester of formula I [R is a (halogen-substituted) 1-10C alkyl or alkenyl] is treated with a lipase derived from Penicillium chrysogenum for asymmetric hydrolysis to obtain (R)-(+)-2,4,4-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ol of formula II and (S)-(-)-2,4,4-trimethyl-2- cyclohexen-1-yl ester of formula III. Further, (S)-(-)-2,4,4-trimethyl-2- cyclohexen-1-ol of formula V and (R)-(+)-2,4,4-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-yl ester of formula VI are obtained by treating a racemic compound of formula IV with the above lipase for asymmetric esterification.
