To obtain the subject compound, having an improved trans/cis ratio and optical purity, and useful as an intermediate for medicines and agrochemicals, more advantageously on a commercial scale by optical resolution of chrysanthemumic acid of trans-isomer ratio and optical purity above a certain level in the presence of an optically active organic amine.
This compound is obtained by optical resolution of (A) chrysanthemumic acid having a trans-isomer ratio of 50% or more, preferably 60 to 95%, and optical purity of 10% e.e. or more, preferably 15 to 90% e.e. with (B) an optically active organic amine, e.g. (S)-1-phenyl-2-(tolyl)ethylamine, preferably at a component B/component A molar ratio of 0.3 to 1.1, normally in a solvent (e.g. toluene), preferably at around -10 to 100°C.
