Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain an optically active epoxy compound useful as an intermediate of a therapeutic agent, etc., for hypertension, etc., by oxidizing a specific olefin compound in the presence of a specific catalyst and a ligand.
SOLUTION: This optically active epoxy compound expressed by the formula III (an absolute configuration of a C-atom expressed by * mark is R or S) is obtained by oxidizing an olefin compound of the formula I [R1 and R2 are each H, cyano, nitro, (protected) amino or a halogen, etc.; R3 is H, a 1-4C alkyl or a 1-4C alkoxy; R4 is a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy or phenyl, etc.] in the presence of an aralkyl manganese complex catalyst of the formula II {W1 and W2 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl or phenyl, etc.; Y1 to Y4 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl, phenyl or naphthyl, etc.; X- is an anion pair forming a salt; (n) is 0-2} and an optically active ligand (preferably an optically active sparteine).
