Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an optically active organic polymer having ability to discriminate molecular asymmetry and being useful as a high-performance resolving agent, by polymerizing a pyridyl group-containing methacrylate ester by using a specified optically active polymerization catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: An optically active organic polymer of formula III (wherein n is an integer ≥3) is obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer of formula II (wherein at least any one of R3, R4 and R5 is pyridyl and the remaining two substituents, which may be the same or different, are each phenyl or pyridyl) by using an optically active catalyst having an axially asymmetric optically active liquid of formula I (wherein Ar is a 6W14C aromatic hydrocarbon, R1 and R2 are each H, a 1W20C linear or branched chain hydrocarbon, which may contain an aromatic hydrocarbon in its molecule, m and n are each the number of methylene chains, m is 0W4 and n is 1W5) and an anion polymerization initiator.
