Title:
PRODUCTION OF OPTICALLY ACTIVE SECONDARY ALCOHOL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3874035
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an optically active secondary alcohol useful as a raw material for pharmaceuticals and agrochemical and a raw material for functional materials such as liquid crystal in high productivity by asymmetrically transesterifying a racemic secondary alcohol with a lipase under specific condition, thereby performing the optical resolution of the racemic compound.
SOLUTION: A racemic secondary alcohol expressed by the formula CH3CH (OH)-(CH2)mR ((m) is an integer of 2-8; R is H or a ≤4C alkyloxy) is optically resolved by an asymmetric transesterification comprising the reaction with vinyl propionate in the presence of a lipase originated from Candida antarcica to effect the selective conversion of the R isomer into a propionic acid ester. the amount of the vinyl ester can be decreased by this process.
