PURPOSE: To obtain an org. silazane polymer showing excellent solubility, meltability and moldability as a component for producing a ceramic material and imparting a high ceramic yield by using a specific basic catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Organochlorisilane represented by formula I (wherein R1 is Cl, H, a 1-4C alkyl or phenyl) is reacted with ammonia together with organochloroosilane represented by formula II or III (wherein R2-R5 are each Cl, a 1-4C alkyl, vinyl or phenyl) in an inert solvent at -80 to -120°C to prepare an ammonoluysis product which is, in turn, polymerized in the presence of a basic catalyst represented by formula IV (wherein R6-R9 are each a 1-24C org. group; and A is a basic anion generating deprotonation) to obtain an org. silazane polymer. This polymer is baked to obtain a ceramic material.
