Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an oxide high-temperature superconductor of a large size by effecting the crystal growth of a specific half-molten precursor comprising oxides containing Ba and Cu elements to control the nucleus formation, crystal direction and the growth rate.
CONSTITUTION: In an oxide mixture containing Ba and Cu elements where Ba content is 25 to 75mole% (based on the metallic elements), 5 to 50vol.% of RE2O3 (one rare earth element containing Y or a combination of rare earth elements) is dispersed to prepare a precursor. The precursor is once heated at 950 to 1,350°C in an oxidative atmosphere into a half-molten state, then cooled down to 900 to 1,100°C. Then, the precursor is brought into contact with a single crystal as seed crystal of the RE compositional formula having a higher formation temperature than that of the RE composition shown in formula among precursors. Subsequently, the superconductor phase having an arbitrary crystal direction equal to the seed crystal is gradually cooled down in a range of 800 to 1060°C or maintained at a constant temperature between 800 and 1060°C to perform continuous growth of the phase represented by the formula.
