PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound by reacting a quaternary ammonium compound such as octyl-methyl-dihydroxyethyl ammonium chloride with a compound such as sodium hydroxyethylsulfonate in a solvent such as dioxane.
CONSTITUTION: The objective oxyalkylated quaternary ammonium compound of formula V can be produced by reacting a quaternary ammonium compound of formula I {R1 is alkyl or alkenyl; R2 is alkyl; R3 and R4 are (BO)xH (B is alkylene; x is 1W5); Y is Cl, Br, I or F] with a compound of formula II [R5 is HOCH2CH2-, CH2=CH-CH2-, CH2=CH-, group of formula III, formula IV, etc.; M is alkali or alkaline earth metal] in a solvent selected from 1W6C alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, dioxane, etc. The compound can be used as an antiseptic, herbicide, plant-growth regulator, fungicide, etc.
