To provide a method capable of producing p-dichlorobenzene in high purity and yield by using benzene and chlorine as raw materials.
This method for producing p-dichlorobenzene comprises (i) a transchlorination reaction step for producing monochlorobenzene by subjecting a reaction raw material comprising a dichlorobenzene mixture, a high boiling point polychlorobenzene and benzene to transchlorination reaction, (ii) a chlorination reaction step for producing polychlorobenzene by chlorinating a reaction raw material comprising the reaction product and benzene and/or monochlorobenzene, (iii) a first separation step for distilling the chlorination reaction product, (iv) a second separation step for distilling high boiling point fraction obtained in the first separation step, (v) a step for separating p- dichlorobenzene from the fraction obtained in the second separation step, (vi) a step for circulating a mixture of o- and m-isomers obtained in p- dichlorobenzene separation step to the transchlorination reaction step, (vii) a step for circulating high boiling point polychlorobenzene fraction obtained in the second separation step to the transchlorination reaction step.
