Abstract:
To provide a production process for an α-sulfofatty acid alkyl ester salt less colored and whiter.
A saturated fatty acid alkyl ester of the formula: R1CH2COOR2 (R1 represents an alkyl group of 6-24 carbon atoms, R2 represents an alkyl group of 1-6 carbon atoms) is sulfonated with a sulfonating agent such as a sulfonating gas in the presence of at least one of Lewis acid selected from the group consisting of N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF), N,N-dimethylacetamid (DMAc), tetramethyl-urea(TMU), N-methylpyrrolidone(NMP), N- methylmorpholine(NMM) to give a less colored and whiter α-sulfofatty acid alkyl ester salt in a high degree of conversion.
