Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a method for producing paper and paperboard in which the stiffness can readily be improved in operation of a paper mill without increasing the basis weight and thickness and requiring the addition of a chemical even when waste paper pulp is used as a raw material pulp.
CONSTITUTION: Pulp containing waste paper is washed with water to remove considerable amounts of microfiber, an internal additive, a pigment of a coated layer, etc., contained in the waste paper pulp. Thereby, the Canadian standard freeness(CSF) of the pulp containing the waste paper after the washing is increased by 100-250ml. The resultant pulp is beaten with a beater such as various refiners or PFI mill to reduce the CSF by 100-250 ml. Paper produced from the obtained waste paper pulp slurry is improved in stiffness as compared with that of paper formed from conventional waste paper pulp. The stiffness of the whole multilayered paperboard can be improved by using the pulp containing the waste paper subjected to the treatment in the hack laver of the multilavered paperboard composed of the front, middle and back layers.
