PURPOSE: To reduce the hygroscopicity of a para-oriented aromatic polyamide fiber by releasing a tension from the fiber after the coagulation of the optically anisotropic dope of a para-oriented aromatic polyamide or after the washing of the spun fiber thereof, impregnating the spun fiber with a perfluoro group- containing compound and subsequently drying the impregnated fiber.
CONSTITUTION: An optically anisotropic dope prepared by dissolving a para- oriented aromatic polyamide in concentrated sulfuric acid having a concentration of 95-101wt.% in to a polymer concentration of at least 15wt.% is extruded once into air and subsequently into a coagulating bath through an orifice. When coagulated or after washed, the water-containing fiber having a water content of ≥80wt.% in a substantially tension-released state is subjected to an impregnation treatment in an aqueous solution or water dispersion of a perfluoro group- containing compound to impregnate the fiber with the perfluoro group-containing compound in an amount of 0.1-20wt.% based on the dry fiber, followed by drying the impregnated fiber.
