PURPOSE: To produce a pellet which can give inexpensively a molding of excellent transparency, such as an optical disc, by pelletizing a random copolymer of ethylene with a specified cycloolefin in such a way that the amount of the formed fine powder does not exceed a specified value.
CONSTITUTION: The pellet is produced from a cycloolefin random copolymer formed by copolymerizing ethylene (A) with at least one cycloolefin (B) of formula [I] (wherein n is 0 or 1; m is 0 or a positive integer; q is 0 or 1; and R1 to R18, Ra and Rb are each H, halogen or a hydrocarbon group) or formula [II] (wherein r is an integer of 0, 1 or greater; s and t are each 0-2; and R1 to R15 are each H, halogen, a hydrocarbon group or alkoxyl) and having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.01-5dl/g, a softening temperature of 70-250°C and a degree of crystallinity of 0-10% (this copolymer comprises 40-90mol% repeating units of component A and 10-60mol% repeating units of component B). The pellets are dried and blended in such a way that the amount of fine powder formed is 100ppm or less.
