To obtain a perfluorosuccinyl difluoride in high yield by carrying out a one-stage reaction for selecting a readily available and inexpensive (fluorosulfonyl)difluoroacetyl fluoride as a raw material and carrying out the pyrolytic coupling reaction under specific conditions.
The pyrolytic coupling reaction of a (fluorosulfonyl)difluoroacetyl fluoride of formula I is carried out to provide a perfluorosuccinyl lifluoride of formula II. The reaction is preferably conducted at 200-500°C when carrying out the pyrolytic coupling reaction or further according to a continuous vapor- phase reaction. The reaction of the compound of formula I is preferably carried out in the presence of a gas inert to the compound of formula I or further under substantially anhydrous conditions. The produced compound of formula II is useful as an intermediate for various fluorine-containing compounds or is a useful compound having specific performances in itself. For example, the compound can be reacted with a nucleophilic reagent and converted into a perfluorocarboxylic acid derivative which is a raw material for fluorine- containing polycondensates excellent in heat resistance and chemical stability such as a polyamide or a polyester.
