To provide a method for manufacturing a calcium sulfide-alkyl phenate detergent and a method for using the detergent for lubricating an internal combustion engine.
The provided method for manufacturing a calcium sulfide-phenate detergent includes the following steps: (i) a step of reacting, together with sulfur in the presence of a solvent, one or more types of alkylphenol materials including a hydrogenated distilled cashew nut shell liquid with a first regulated quantity of a calcium salt and a first regulated quantity of an alcohol and (ii) a step of reacting the product of the step (i) with respectively regulated second quantities of the calcium salt and the alcohol and then carbonating the resulting reaction product, whereas the total quantities of the calcium salt and alcohol coincide with values yielding a calcium sulfide-phenate having a regulated total base number (TBN), whereas the respective first quantities of the calcium salt and alcohol provided at the step (i) relative to the total quantities of the calcium salt and alcohol provided for the method as expressed by mole percentage units are below 50, more preferably below 30, and most preferably 20 or below.
