PURPOSE: To form a photoconductive layer of superior image quality and characteristics under high humidity by using the paint of good fine particle dispersibility obtained by adsorbing a polar organic solvent in the surface of inorganic photoconductive fine particles then dispersing these in a binder.
CONSTITUTION: Inorganic photoconductive fine particles (powder of cadmium sulfide, zinc oxide, etc.) are immersed in a polar organic solvent (tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, etc.) to adsorb the polar organic solvent on the surfaces thereof, thence they are dispersed in a nonpolar binder (for example, the mixture of a styrene copolymer and toluene), whereby the paint is formed. Thence, the paint obtained in the above-mentioned manner is coated on a substrate and is dried, whereby the photoconductive layer is formed. It is also effective even if the above-mentioned polar solvent is added at the time of dispersing the photoconductive fine particles in the binder.
