PURPOSE: To produce a physiologically active substance such as indole alkaloid by the tissue culture of a plant of genus Lochnera in a medium containing one or more components selected from Ca, Zn, I2, inositol, nicotinic acid, pyridoxine, etc.

CONSTITUTION: A physiologically active substance is produced by cloturing a plant of genus Lochnera in a medium containing 0-1mM of Ca, 0-10μM of Zn, 0-2μM of iodine, 0.2-2.0g/l of inositol, 0-0.3mg/l of nicotinic acid, 0-0.3mg/l of pyridoxine and 0-1mg/l of glycine. The plant of genus Lochnera to be cultured is preferably Catharanthus roseus var. Little Bright Eye. A concrete example of the physiologically active substance is indole alkaloid.
