Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the generation of flaws in a pipe and to increase its high temp. oxidation resistance by using an Al alloy mixed with elements increasing its m.p. and furthermore increasing its high temp. oxidation resistance as Al-base metal.
SOLUTION: The outer circumferential face of a cast iron pipe 2 is coated with an aluminum alloy layer 1 by thermal spraying for an aluminum alloy. This is subjected to heat treatment to diffuse aluminum into the iron part 3 of the cast iron pipe 2 and to oxidize aluminum on the surface part 4. When the annealing heat treatment is completed, an iron aluminum alloy layer 5 is formed on the outer circumferential face of the iron part 3 in the cast iron pipe 2, and an aluminum oxide passive film is formed on the outer circumferential face. As the aluminum-base metal at this time, the aluminum alloy mixed with elements increasing its m.p. and also increasing its high temp. oxidation resistance such as B, Ti, Zr, Hf, Ce, Y or the like is used. Thus, the uniform iron-aluminum alloy layer can be obtd.
