Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily obtain pitch for high-strength carbon fiber, by contacting a hydrogenated pitch containing metallic component with a solid acid to remove the metallic component and separating the treated pitch from the solid acid.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrogenated pitch containing a metallic component such as iron is made to contact with a solid acid such as silica gel, zeolite, alumina, etc., preferably by fixed bed process to remove the metallic component and the treated pitch is separated from the solid acid. The solid acid used in the above process has preferably particle diameter of about 0.5W10mm, specific surface area of 50W1,000m2/g, pore volume of 0.2W10cm3/g and average pore diameter of about 1W500.
