Abstract:

PURPOSE: To permit simple and easy prepn. of a multi-cored optical fiber array by orderly placing plural pieces of the multi-cored plastic optical fibers to form the array thereof.

CONSTITUTION: Plural pieces of the multi-cored plastic optical fibers 19 consisting of plural pieces of cores 1 which are separated from each other and clads 18 which are packed to enclose the cores and are made of a material having the refractive index lower than the refractive index of the cores are correctly and orderly placed as one unit to arraying in a receiving jig 4. After an adhesive agent 5 is coated to the fibers, the fibers are fixed by a retaining jig 6. The fibers are taken out after fixing, by which the multi-cored optical fiber array integrated with the multi-cored plastic optical fibers 19 with each other is formed. Since the optical fiber diameter is large, the fibers permit the easy and correct orderly placement even if the core diameter is reduced to enhance resolution and the density of the cores 1 is increased. The relative positional relations between the cores 1 are maintained and the production of the multi-cored optical fiber array which provides high image quality is permitted.
