PURPOSE: To produce the subject compound useful as intermediates for plastic precursor, by reacting hexachlorocyclopentadiene as a starting material with hydrogen fluoride over a catalyst in the presence of Cl2 in the gaseous phase.
CONSTITUTION: Hexachlorocyclopentadiene which is industirally and easily available is served as a starting material The pentadiene and hydrogen fluoride are reacted over a catalyst (e.g. bismuth, lanthanide or chromium compound, etc.) in the gas phase while introduction of chlorine, thereby to give polychlorofluorocyclopentene. This method is advantageous in producing halogenated cyclopentenes with varied fluorination degree, because chlorine- fluorine exchange in the hexachlorocyclopentadiene is easily attained.
