PURPOSE: To give metal plating having excellent appearance, fastness, etc. without deteriorating physical properties inherent to moldings, by treating a linear arom. polyester molding in an ionized activated gas and then subjecting the treated molding to an electroless plating treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A molding such as film is prepd. by using a linear arom. polyester such as a polyester wherein an acid component is composed of a bifunctional arom. carboxylic acid such as terephthalic acid and a glycol component is composed of a glycol such as ethylene glycol. The molding is subjected to a plasma treatment in an ionized activated gas (e.g. carbon monoxide) atmosphere to enhance the activity of its surface and immersed in an aq. hydrochloric acid soln. of stannous chloride to carry out sensitization. Then the molding is immersed in a hydrochloric acid soln. contg. a noble metal salt such as gold or platinum to carry out activation, and subjected to an electroless plating treatment by using a plating bath contg. nickel or copper to obtain the desired polyester having metallized surface.
