Abstract:

PURPOSE: To safely and easily obtain a molecular weight-controlled polygermane in good operability under mild conditions by putting a specific halogermane as feedstock to electrode reaction using each specific supporting electrolyte and anode.
CONSTITUTION: The polygermane of formula II (n is 2-11000) can be obtained by putting a halogermane of formula I (m is 1 3; R is H, alkyl, etc.; X is halogen) (e.g. butylphenyldichlorogermane) to electrode reaction with metallic Mg, Cu or Al (pref. Mg) as the anode in an aprotic solvent (pref. THF) under ultrasonic irradiation, as necessary, in the presence of a supporting electrolyte consisting of a perchlorate (pref. lithium perchlorate). It is preferable that the concentrations of the feedstock and the supporting electrolyte in the solvent be 0.3-1 mol/l, respectively. And, to suppress side reactions of the halogermane of the formula I due to water, the water in both the solvent and supporting electrolyte is preferably eliminated in advance.
