To provide a method for producing a product having imino- oxadiazinedione group, whose content is improved in a trimer mixture, without need of handling hydrofluoric acid in the production of a catalyst.
This method comprises subjecting a starting isocyanate having a number average molecular weight of 140-600 and selected from organic di- or polyisocyanates each having isocyanate groups associated with an aliphatic, alicyclic and/or araliphatic group to contact trimerization in the presence of a quaternary ammonium corresponding to the formula R4E+F- (E is N or P; R is a 1-20C aliphatic, aromatic and/or araliphatic appropriately having identical or different branched chains or the like) and a phosphonium fluoride trimerizing catalyst to yield a trimerized polyisocyanate having imino-oxadiazinedione groups (asymmetric trimer) at ≥30 mol% in the trimer mixture.
