Abstract:

To produce a high-molecular weight polyisoolefin by polymerizing isoolefin with optionally a specified monomer component in the presence of a specified initiator system.

Isoolefin of the formula: CH2=CR1R2 (wherein R1 is methyl; and R2 is a 1-10C alkyl or a 3-10C cycloalkyl) is copolymerized with optionally a 4-10C conjugated or nonconjugated diene and/or a cationically polymerizable 4-20C mono- or poly-unsaturated compound at a temperature of -100 to 200°C under a pressure of 0.1-100 bar in a solution, a susupension or a vapor phase in the presence of an initiator system comprising acyclic and/or cyclic aluminoxane compounds of formulas II and III (wherein Rx, Ry, Rz and Rw are each a 1-12C alkyl; and (m) is an integer of 5-30).
