PURPOSE: To facilitate the recovery of a solvent or a polymerization initiator without using a large amount of the solvent and obtain a polymer containing the tetrahydrofuran skeleton by bringing a reactional solution prepared by carrying out the cationic polymerization of a dihydrofuran derivative into contact with hot water and distilling away the organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A 2,3-dihydrofuran derivative expressed by the formula (R1 to R6 are hydrogen or lower alkyl) is subjected to the cationic polymerization in the presence of an organic solvent and a polymerization initiator and the prepared reactional mixture solution is then diluted with an organic solvent after terminating the polymerizing reaction. The resultant reactional mixture solution is further brought into contact with hot water heated at a higher temperature than the boiling point of the organic solvent or a higher temperature than that when the organic solvent forms an azeotropic mixture with water. Thereby, the organic solvent is distilled away.
