Abstract:

PURPOSE:To use an inexpensive and readily handleable catalyst component and readily obtain a cyclic olefin polymer at a low cost by polymerizing a cyclic olefin using the catalyst consisting essentially of a specific transition metal compound component and an aluminoxane component. CONSTITUTION:An cyclic olefin (e.g. cyclopentane) is polymerized using a catalyst consisting essentially of a transition metal compound component [e.g. bis(cyclopentadienyl)nickel] containing a transition metal (e.g. iron, ruthenium, osmium, cobalt, rhodium, iridium, nickel, palladium or platinum) belonging to group VIII of the periodic table and an aluminoxane component (e.g. methylaluminoxane) to afford the objective polymer.
