Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer controlled in molecular weight, having slightly discoloring and excellent in heat resistance by polymerizing a (meth)acrylate using an organometallic compound having polymerization initiating points in the presence of a specific compound used as a chain transfer agent.
SOLUTION: A (meth)acrylic acid ester is polymerized by using an organometallic compound having at least one polymerization initiating point (preferably a trifunctional organic Sc compound, a trifunctional organic Y compound, a trifunctional organic rare earth metal or a bifunctional organic rare earth metal) in the presence of a compound having reactive hydrogen atom in the molecule and represented by the formula (R1)SH (R1 is H or a 1-20C hydrocarbon), etc., to provide the objective poly(meth)acrylate. The method enables production of polymethacrylate at a lower cost by using smaller amount of organometallic compound, compared with a conventional technique.
