PURPOSE: To obtain polyoxyalkylene glycolamine easily, by reacting a specified compound as a feedstock with ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, etc., subjecting the product to amination and cleaving the tertiary butyl group with a halogenic acid.

CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R1 is the same or different H, -CH3 or -C2H5) as a feedstock is reacted with ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, 1,2- butylene oxide or its mixture. The reaction product is subjected to amination, followed by cleavage of the tertiary butyl group with a hydrohalic acid to obtain a compound of formula II (R is H, -CH3, -C2H5; x is 0 to 50). An excess amount of hydrochloric acid or hydrobromic acid is used as the halogenic acid.
