Title:
PRODUCTION OF POROUS CERAMICS HAVING THROUGH HOLE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3243506
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain porous ceramics having through holes and applicable to a filter by aggregating plural ceramic compacts in one layer, compressing theses and sintering the resultant precursor having through holes which originate from the gaps among the compacts in one direction.
SOLUTION: A sinterable material such as aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide, silicon nitride, aluminum nitride, silicon carbide or molybdenum silicide may be applied as a ceramic material. Ceramic compacts as starting materials are linear, particularly thin linear compacts and columnar compacts having a uniform outside diameter of sections perpendicular to the axial direction are preferably used so as to obtain uniform through holes. When linear ceramic compacts of ≤1 mm outside diameter are used, the objective porous ceramics having through holes of ≤100 μm inside diameter is efficiently produced. The ceramic compacts are formed by extrusion, aggregated and compressed and the resultant precursor is heated to sinter the mutual contact parts of the compacts.
