Title:
PRODUCTION OF POROUS FIBER SHEETS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3176704
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the title formed products which can be used as a sound absorbing material, heat insulating material or cushioning material of high heat resistance, strength and bulkiness by crushing styrene foam, inorganic or organic fiber materials, and chained clay minerals and making the resultant aqueous slurry into sheet products.
CONSTITUTION: Styrene foam, inorganic or organic fiber materials such as glass fibers, and chained clay minerals such as hormite are crushed by means of an underwater mixer. A coagulant such as polyethylene oxide is added to the resultant slurry to effect coagulation, then mixture is cast on the Buchner funnel on which a wire sheet of 40 mesh is set to give a formed body. The body is treated with an organic solvent dissolving the polystyrene or heat-treated to remove the polystyrene part and at the same time utilize the polystyrene as a binder for the fibers whereby the objective porous fiber sheet product is obtained having high heat resistance, mechanical strength and bulkiness.
