PURPOSE: To obtain the title material of an open-cellular structure of a large volume, by adhering a powder to a specified solution layer formed on a base, coagulating said layer by holding the base in a coagulation bath, and removing the powder from the layer.
CONSTITUTION: The title material is obtained by forming a layer (B) of a solution of 5W35wt.% polymeric compound (a) (e.g., vinyl chloride resin) in a solvent (b) (e.g., tetrahydrofuran) on a base (A) of, e.g., a plate, glass, metal or polymeric compound, adhering a powder (C) which is a water-soluble organic or inorganic salt (e.g., water-soluble starch) to the surface of the layer in a uniform thickness, keeping it for several sec to several min, and either holding it in a coagulation bath (D) comprising a solvent sparingly soluble or insoluble in components B and C for 1W24hr to coagulate component (a) or drying component B, and optionally separating component A from the layer, removing component C from it, and drying it. This material is useful as a medical material for artificial blood vessels, ureters, tracheas, esophaguses and other artificial organs.
