PURPOSE: To produce a porous metal for occluding hydrogen having excellent durability by mixing an adhesive agent or a metal having alloy formability with a metal for occluding hydrogen, incorporating further heat-resistant fibers into the mixture thereof and bonding the same by adhering or sintering the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: An adhesive agent or powder of a metal having alloy formability to a metal for occluding hydrogen is mixed as a binder with the fine powder of said metal then heat resistant fibers are incorporated as a reinforcing material therein and the mixture is packed in a mold and is press molded. The molding is then removed from the mold and the molding with which the adhesive agent is used is used as a porous hydrogen occluding body as it is. However, the molding is heated up to the thermosetting temp. in the case of using a thermosetting adhesive agent. The molding is put in gaseous hydrogen flow and is sintered at above the sintering temp. of the binder and the reinforcing material and is then slowly cooled in the case of using the alloy formable metal. The remaining mixture may be packed and press molded in the mold in which the reinforcing material is disposed in the specific direction.
