Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled pitch of low viscosity with good thermal stability and spinnability without hydrogenation-treatment, etc., by removing the high- molecular weight component in tar pitch by solvent extraction followed by heat-treatment of the resultant pitch.

CONSTITUTION: First, tar pitch is subjected to extraction-treatment with an aromatic solvent (e.g., tar-based middle oil) followed by separation-treatment such as filtration to eliminate solvent-insolubles. Next, the resulting pitch is treated by heating (pref. being heated to 470W530°C under an inert gas atmo sphere and a reduced pressure ≤20mmHg at a rate ≥15°C/min. followed by heating at this highest temperature for ≤10min), thus obtaining the objective pitch. The elimination of solvent-insolubles mentioned above is pref. carried out in such a manner that the pyridine-insolubles and quinoline-insolubles in the pitch represent ≤2wt% and trace amount, respectively.
