Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a preform oriented in a fixed direction by sticking a reinforcing material dispersed in a solvent to a fine metallic wire moving in the solvent in an oriented state, cutting the resulting stock to a proper length and bunding or knitting it.
CONSTITUTION: A viscous solvent 2 is filled into a vessel 1 and short Al2O3 fibers 3 are dispersed in the solvent 2. When a fine metallic wire 4 is traveled in the solvent 2 through guide pulleys 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d in the direction of arrows A, the fibers 3 are oriented in the moving direction A and stuck to the surface of the wire 4. The resulting stock is dried, cut to a proper length and bundled or knitted to obtain a preform for a composite metallic material.
