Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce the titled primer excellent in adhesion to propylene resins, by grafting an unsaturated carboxylic acid (anhydride) onto a specified polymer.

CONSTITUTION: About 3W75pts.wt. unsaturated carboxylic acid (anhydride), e.g., maleic acid, fumaric acid, or maleic anhydride, is grafted onto 100pts.wt. olefin polymer (and/or its halogenated product), e.g., ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, having a solubility of above 10g in 100mol of toluene (1 atm, 110°C) at about 50W200°C in an organic solvent in the presence of about 0.01W10pts.wt. radical initiator (preferably, one having a half life at 10°C of about 0.1W20hr, e.g, benzoyl peroxide).
