To provide the methods for producing a propylene-ethylene block copolymer having an excellent balance between rigidity and impact resistance and for producing a propylene-ethylene random copolymer having an excellent balance between transparency and rigidity.
Propylene is copolymerized in the presence of a polymerization catalyst composed of (A) a solid catalytic component obtained by treating a solid component comprising magnesium, titanium, a halogen and an electron donative compound as essential components with Br2, I2, CBr4, CI4, an alkyl bromide, an alkyl iodide or a compound of the formula, MetRx (Met is Mg, B, Al, Ga, Ge, In, Sn, Sb or a transition metal element; R is Br, I or a hydrocarbon-containing group and at least one of Rx is Br or I; (x) is a Met valence), (B) a specific organoaluminum compound, (C) an alkylalkoxysilane compound and (D) the compound MetRx (as shown above).
